Lusitanos and Osteoarthritis

I’ve never really considered how an environment may impact a horse’s likelihood for osteoarthritis but in Portugal, scientists dove into the Lusitano breed and the possible reasons why Lusitanos have minimal to minor osteoarthritis compared to other breeds. There’s definitely more research to be done here but this type of work is fascinating. We continually are painting a better picture of our companions.

Handy Gadget for Shows & Camping

I hate to admit it but I found RinseKit scrolling through Instagram and the minute I saw it, I knew I wanted one. I haven’t ordered one yet so I cannot say how well it works but I can already name a few instances that I wish I had this gadget in tow. The RinseKit is a portable shower that is pressurized, and can be heated unlike most other portable showers that drizzle out a piddly little cold stream. There are different sizes available but I find the prices quite affordable for what you are getting. The hot water rod to heat the water can be plugged right into your vehicle’s 12v and keeps the water warm for your desired time. Weekend trail riders, show weekends, rinsing boots and gear before getting in the car….the uses are endless, especially for us horse gals.

Pedro Torres

The discipline of working equitation is growing like wild fire and for good reason. Many dressage riders find it as a helpful side pursuit to develop their skills further but working equitation is suitable for any horse and rider combo. I first saw a video of Pedro Torres doing a speed round in working equitation and I was fascinated. Pedro is an artist of his craft and you can see how developed his relationships are with his horses. Below are two videos, one is an interview with Pedro where you get to know his style and approach with the horses, not to mention it is just a beautifully shot video. The second video is a compilation video of Pedro Torres where you can see how refined his aids are as he navigates the courses.
