Detergent for stinky barn clothes
It seems near impossible to get barn attire really, truly clean. I mean, sure you wash it, but most of the time, even with a good smelling detergent or scent booster, I find that there is a portion of sweat, dirt and tears that will not come out of my barn clothing. Enter Rockin’ Green Detergent. They make a specific active wear detergent with natural enzymes to remove the stink that gets set into active wear and technical fabrics. Sometimes I solely use Rockin’ Green detergent but many times, I use one scoop of Rockin’ Green with a small amount of my regular detergent and it works great. This active wear detergent works really well with my barn outwear and jackets and recently I have been testing it on more items such as saddle pads and I have been really pleased with the results.
Somatics for Horse and Rider
Somatics is a way to connect the mind and body through consciously controlling the neuromuscular system. I know that sounds somewhat mystical in nature but it’s a really simple technique to help you and your horse. I first saw a somatic practitioner when I first moved to Maryland at the suggestion of Felicitas. The practitioner helped me to slowly release the tension in my body in a way that was gentle and was easy to integrate into my mindfulness practices. And then I used somatics with the horses under Felicitas’s instruction. It’s incredible to observe horses on a more simple level and notice the subtle weaknesses and balance issues each horse faces. I recently started using somatics again after a little hiatus and it is incredible how much you grow with your horse by paying attention to the little nuances we feel and observe. Below is an article about Somatics for horses and a Youtube video for lower back pain relief. There is also an Equine Hanna Somatics Instructor named Alissa Mayer who puts out a lot of great content regarding somatics and horses.

Carl Hester Barn Tour
I cannot help but be infatuated with barn tours. I love seeing how people utilize space, display their personalities through design and get a sneak peak into a rider’s every day life. Hence why I have to share Carl Hester’s barn tour from Noelle Floyd. I love how cozy his yard feels, I think the European yard set up is so cute but also so functional. And then there is the indoor, it is bright and open and grand feeling. I can only imagine the feeling you would get entering that indoor on horseback, I can’t help but picture fairy dust sprinkling down as you walk through the door. Enjoy this short little interview and barn tour with the wonderful Carl Hester.
