No Stupid Questions-How Can You Be Kinder to Yourself?
As many of you already know, I love a good podcast. No Stupid Questions is forever a solid choice if I am unsure of what I want to listen to that day; the episode description tells you all you need to know about the episode which I love and they are the perfect length as well. Recently I listened to #162 “How Can You Be Kinder to Yourself?” and it was exactly what I needed to listen to that day. At some point you probably have felt overwhelmed, over faced in a lesson or belittled at the barn and knowing how to take care of yourself is really important when you’re feeling down. Not to mention the fact that most of us are so mindful about our horses’ care and well being but do very little to check in on ourselves.
Two Daily Books
I try to have somewhat of a morning routine so while I sip my coffee in the early hours of the morning, I read from two short books, The Daily Stoic and What I Know For Sure. Starting my day with both of these books has really helped me take on the day with energy and perspective. In The Daily Stoic each day contains a different quote from a stoic and then the author Ryan Holiday provides a short digestion of the quote and how you can apply it to your daily life. I first listened to What I Know For Sure as an audiobook in the car and I liked it so much that I had to buy the book for my coffee hour. Oprah Winfrey’s book, What I Know For Sure is filled with Oprah’s short stories and experiences that fill me with perspective and joy as I take on the day. If you are looking for something quick to read every day, these will help you approach the day with a different way of thinking, which I find, overtime, makes a huge difference.
Declutter The Mind
Currently I use the Calm app most days for my meditation practice but the other day I was looking for something a little different and so I typed a few key words into youtube and discovered the youtube channel Declutter The Mind. What I love about the channel is that you can scroll through and find a meditation that fits what you need in that moment. Whether you are feeling pessimistic, anger or you need an evening calm down meditation, there is a meditation for you on their channel. They also have an app for your phone or tablet if you’re looking to get a more regular practice started; there are full courses available on both the Youtube channel and their app as well.
