Blanket Folding 101

Blanket season is right around the corner! If you’re like me, I try folding my blankets and somehow it can end up like the age old fitted sheet debacle. Straps everywhere, some end up skinny and some lumpy and fat. So, I am saving this video in my phone as I am not too ashamed to watch this until I get these techniques down! There are two methods, one for the lightweight, sheets and coolers and the other technique is for the bigger mediums and heavyweight blankets. I love that these techniques I don’t have to lay the blanket on the floor; I never have enough room or I end up in the way. I hope this helps keep your barn and blankets organized!

There are two links below, the first link is from the US Equestrian site, I wanted to share this one as there are tons of great informative videos on their website in addition to this blanket folding one, but many of the videos you need to be a member of USEF to watch. The other link is to the Facebook version of this video in case you are not a USEF member.

Shrimp Fishing From Horseback

Did you know there are still fisherman in the North Sea who perform shrimp fishing from horseback? In this short little video, you can see this ancient technique that only 16 fisherman still perform today. It is more sustainable than commercial fishing but of course due to the industry competition, this technique is almost extinct. I love this horse just walking through the waves trolling this big net behind him, what a beautiful scene from above.

Uhip Thermal Skirt

The cold weather is approaching, and every year I wonder if I have all the appropriate gear to keep me warm and not cursing the cold. I have many winter favorites but one that most people don’t know exists is a winter skirt. Yes, I said skirt. My legs freeze and my top half can get too warm while I ride, so this Uhip skirt is perfect for me. I have the winter pants but I like to be able to wear my tall boots and then have something over my legs while I get horses ready and while riding at non heated/outdoor barns. It is great for trail riders, cold arena riders or trainers who don’t want a full parka. Uhip makes a lot of great products but this skirt is definitely something you haven’t seen before and it has all the right features. Double zippers allow you to wear it while riding, the elastic straps around your legs keep it from flapping in the wind and the pockets allow you to keep a few things on your top layer like the ever important sugar cubes. Uhip is from Sweden; the sizing was pretty accurate, I would just recommend measuring and following their size chart. And check out their whole website, they make such thoughtful products, I love everything I have from their collection.
