Body Work
I recently discovered Kara’s page on Instagram while looking for ways to increase the stretching and groundwork I do with my horses. There are two videos that I am sharing, one is a simple tail pull and the other is a tail circle sequence. These simple stretches can help your horse’s low back and sacrum and it is easy to do with your horse before you ride, kind of like a pre ride warm up. You can also do these stretches while your horse stands on Sure Foot Pads if you have them which is an added bonus. When you palpate the tail, take notice of the tail tone or if the tail feels different on one side or another when doing the tail circles. It is something to keep track of over time and notice any changes, good or bad. And check out the rest of Kara’s Instagram for other stretches and ways to help your horse on the ground with their body.
From Prison Guard to Marathon Master
I love The Rich Roll Podcast and this episode is one of my favorites. I have listened to this episode many times, and every time, I find something I needed to hear. Ken Rideout is no joke. He was a prison guard, wealthy man on Wall Street and addict turned fastest marathoner over 50. Ken is real, raw and invigorating to listen to; you will surely feel the need to get moving and go after the things you’ve been talking about after you listen to this episode. You can listen to the episode (episode #701) and all of Rich Roll’s other fantastic episodes on Spotify, Apple podcasts or wherever you listen. You can also watch the interview on Youtube in the link below.
Stubbs Saddle Mate
Most equestrians pile gear, tack, feed and more into their cars or trucks. Whether it’s going to a clinic, going to a horse show or just daily transport of tack back and forth to the barn, things can get tossed around, scratched or ruined if they aren’t stored properly. This compact saddle tree/carrier is one of the smartest inventions I have seen in awhile. The saddle fits on top and the inside of the saddle carrier is hollow so you can store other equipment or gear underneath. Not only is this great for your car but it’s also convenient at the barn for a grooming/tacking area, inside a tack room or keeping in the arena as a saddle stand. It’s reasonably priced and would make a fantastic Christmas gift! Not to mention, free shipping and 10% off on Big Dee’s Tack & Vet Supply.
