VW Trailer Assist Commercial

There are lots of things we associate with the Super Bowl. Football of course, food and also commercials. I wanted to share one of my favorite commercials that is horse related in leu of the big game this weekend. It is a comical horse commercial, maybe you’ve seen it but if you’re like me, it always makes me laugh no matter how many times I have seen it. I know I can park a trailer, but with an audience, I sometimes can look strikingly similar to the guy in the commercial.

Will Rogers Interview

I have been following Will Rogers for awhile on Instagram and his work with horses is nothing short of magical. His exhibitions bring a large crowd and the audience always leaves with a dreamy “I wish my horse could do that” expression. This interview with Will gives you some insight into his philosophies and how he trains his horses. Pay attention to what he thinks more people need to do with their horses, not some special exercise but simply being mindful. I don’t think a lot of people realize when you go get your horse from the field, the minute you’re interacting with the horse, you are shaping your relationship with them. What we do on the ground with our horses and how we interact with them effects our rides and training. So when you go to the barn this week, pay attention to the little things. Be present for your horse, they will greatly appreciate it.

DIY Storage

I am always looking for better ways to organize all of my tack, blankets and equipment and if you’re a true horse girl like me… I know you have accumulated some stuff. I want to share two different organization solutions I created/found for two different storage areas in case you are looking for a spring project. The first picture is a solution I created by purchasing some sturdy oak cabinets off of Craigslist, then I bought some oops paint and had my husband help me put a dowel and shelf in the middle. And voila, for about $150 bucks we made this unit for a tack room. It is easily taken apart, it has moved across the country and back with me and now resides in my basement with all of my products and extra tack.

When I moved back to Minnesota, I needed a tack locker for at the barn. I found this super sturdy and beautifully made computer hutch on Facebook for under $80. The keyboard area is perfect for saddle pads and I love the whiteboard/cork board for writing down farrier appointments, keeping track of deworming, etc. We had to reinforce the back of the unit to hold two saddle racks but otherwise, it was pretty straight forward to transition this into a beautiful tack locker.

I hope this inspires you to create a storage solution that works for you and all of your horsey needs. When tack and equipment end up in boxes and bins in the basement or garage, you forget what you have and end up purchasing more and more things. By creating a storage solution that works for you, you can see all of the items you have and stay more organized. My top tips for creating and organizing:

  1. Lay out all the things you need to find a home for, then you know how much space and what type of space you need. For example, I knew I wanted a locker big enough for two saddles. This is also helpful if you are trying to purge items, by laying things out you may see that you have three lunge lines, you may only need to keep one.

  2. Ask yourself what is most important to me? Cost? Look? Size? It’s important to know your priorities and your expectations.

  3. Try to put similar items together. For example, in the first picture below, there is a wicker basket on the left, it holds all my tack cleaning supplies including towels and rags for cleaning. And in the second picture, instead of having three different bags of treats that are hanging open, I bought one air tight container to hold all of the horses treats.
