Andreas Hausberger Interview

Andreas Hausberger is one of the most profound horseman of our time. If you don’t know who he is, he has worked at the Spanish Riding School since 1984 and became a chief rider in 2007. He has helped many of the top riders in the world and continues to be a huge influence in the dressage world. This interview with Andreas is long but well worth the read. You can feel his passion for correct riding and training through his responses in the interview; there is no room for pressure or being in a hurry when training a horse. I envy anyone who is afforded the opportunity to work with him but if you can embody his approach, mindful work with yourself and your horse, I think that already is of great benefit. Hopefully this interview inspires you to be correct and mindful about how you approach your training.

Horses Inside Out

I am always seeking more knowledge about horse anatomy and body function and I think it is extremely important for riders to understand their horse’s body and why it is moving the way it is so they can help them. You have probably seen Gillian Higgins work, she is the woman who paints the bones/muscles on horses which is incredibly informative in its own right but she also has a whole website of webinars, videos and articles. Her upcoming webinar series sound extremely interesting. There are three webinars in the series, each one focusing on a different gait of the horse and how you can improve it. You can find more information in the link below and I encourage you to navigate around her entire website, there is a lot of information to be explored!

Saddle Pad Hair Remover

Ok this may seem a little random but trust me, this is one of my new favorite items. One of my most despised chores is trying to get all of the hair off a saddle pad. You know what I am talking about, the matted hair that sits on your pad for weeks before you wash it. And then when it comes to washing, if you don’t pull that off, two things happen, your pad will not get clean and two, your washer will be completely full of horse hair. I have tried using my shedding blade for this task but the teeth are sharp and end up ripping the threading of the saddle pad.

I originally bought a couple of the Uproot Cleaners for my house, we have two shedding dogs and a rug and couch that have a magnetic pull for hair. But the other day I was preparing to wash a saddle pad and I tried the Uproot Cleaner Mini on the pad to remove the imbedded hair. It worked wonders! It was fast, efficient, and it didn’t ruin the threading on my pad. These little tools are pretty reasonably priced so if you have shedding dogs, this is worth your investment for their hair as well as your horse’s hair. I am thinking of trying the Uproot Cleaner Mini on velcro/sport boots next, I figure it’s worth a shot to get those pesky little threads, hair and debris out of boots and I am hopeful that it will be just as effective!
