Ride Safe Bracelet
Riding outside or on the trails may seem a little out of reach at the moment in Minnesota but as you buy your park passes and plan for outings with your horse, you should consider buying a Ride Safe bracelet. These bracelets are designed by veterinarians who ride and are meant to provide vital information if an accident or emergency were to happen. You can customize your bracelet with your information, medications, emergency contacts and more. I even bought one of these for my husband because he does triathlons where there may not be eyes on him during the entire race. I know there are many ways to find people’s information but to have a bracelet with all the pertinent information right on hand (pun intended) during an emergency is much faster than having to search for the information in someone’s belongings or vehicle.
Warming Up Horses When Riding: Why and How
When I see a rider get on and get to work immediately, it makes me cringe; no warm up or thought on how the horse feels that day. The warmup is different for every horse, as described in this article with Dr. Hilary Clayton but it’s important to know what works best for your horse. She makes different suggestions for the warm up depending on age, injuries, preference, etc. For me personally, I spend at least 10 minutes in the walk on the horses I ride so I can assess where they are that day in their body and get the blood flowing and the joints moving. After reading this article, hopefully you can make an appropriate warm up plan for you horse.
Long Mane Button Braids
Do you like a long mane but also like the look of button braids for showing? You can have both! You don’t have to do a running braid if your horse has a long mane! In this video, you can see how easy it is to do button braids with a long mane. I had a student do this for awhile and it looked lovely and was super easy! As show season approaches, this may be the perfect option for your horse with a long mane!
